My main 440 repeater is near my home and where I work so the Miracle Baby is ok in that vicinity. I carry my W2A with me to work in my bag/briefcase and with the MB, I don't have to remove tha antenna from the HT. That saves a bit of a wear and tear on the antenna connection. At work, I can't monitor much of anything because of all the computers generating interferance (no matter what antenna I use). I can monitor the State Police on 800Mhz and the towns FD on 8000Mhz using the MB. It is a tradeoff between size and performance. I wasn't so dissapointed that I returned it. On the other hand, I am not sure I would buy one again knowing what I know now. I do put mine to use so ... find a place that has a return policy and check it out. It's the only way you'll know if it will meet your needs. -- Russell Keating, N9LIL ------------> Send email to: russell1@intgp1.att.com ------------------------------ Date: 10 Mar 94 14:59:01 GMT From: ihnp4.ucsd.edu!agate!howland.reston.ans.net!math.ohio-state.edu!magnus.acs.ohio-state.edu!csn!yuma!galen@network.ucsd.edu Subject: Alliance 5-wire Rotor Motor Questions To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu I've accquired an Alliance rotor motor with no control box. The rotor takes 5 wires, has the rotating mast thru the body and the mast top clamp on the side of the case. I've been told this style is often used as an altitude rotor on Satellite setups. Questions: 1. What voltage does it take to turn the motor? AC or DC? 2. WHat are the pinouts for the five wires? 3. What is the model number or other ID's? (nothing on the case but Alliance). I can open it up to get the pinouts, but I don't want to burn it out with the wrong voltage etc. I'm planning to use it to turn small VHF/UHF antennas. Any positive responses are greatly appreciated!!!!! I thought that the AM filtering was in the first IF, and that the SSB filter was in the second IF and they were both in line for SSB. Maybe that is not the case? I would be interested in a wider AM filter as well, if was not too expensive (shouldn't be for a 2 pole xtal filter). ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 10 Mar 94 10:27:30 PST From: ihnp4.ucsd.edu!agate!howland.reston.ans.net!cs.utexas.edu!swrinde!elroy.jpl.nasa.gov!nntp-server.caltech.edu!mustang.mst6.lanl.gov!newshost.lanl.gov!usenet@network.ucsd.edu Subject: FT-726r for Sale To: ham-equip@ucsd.edu I have a Yaesu FT-726r for sale included are modules for 2 meters 430-440 mHz and 10 12 and 15 meters. Will there be a noticable signal loss? And will there be a need to worry about possible RFI to the line? What kind of line should we use? This is being done to avoid the RF signal loss that would appear if we transmitted from the radio on the second floor of our building. The radio will actually be on the roof in the control room. While you're on the phone to Motorola the next time, ask them what a new radio costs. That ought to put the $100 programming charge into the proper perspective. Speaking of $100, that will buy you just two type-N connectors for Andrew 1/2" heliax. Or just a tad less than that will secure you a 1200 mAH NiCad pack for your handheld. 73 es GE from Jeff Amateur: WA6FWI@WA6FWI.#SOCA.CA.USA.NA | "You have a flair for adding Internet: jangus@skyld.grendel.com | a fanciful dimension to any US Mail: PO Box 4425 Carson, CA 90749 | story."
